FLTK NEWS -- 1.1.x bugs and FLTK-D
by: cable_guy_67 - Aug 25, 2006
For those of you that don't subscribe to the FLTK newsgroups I would like to let the GIDForums™ FLTK'rs in on a few things. Current state of FLTK 1.1.xAs some of you may know, there is one main developer for this line. He has been, without a doubt, instrumental in keeping all us end users happily compiling programs with our favorite UI library. He is even a member here at GIDForums™ and has given some very helpful pointers to us about using FLTK. Now it is time to give a little back.
So please, if anyone out there has the skills/time/desire to help, please do what you can. You don't have to come up with the solution to be helpful. Suggested plans for clearing these bugs, testing of fixes commited to the subversion repository or any helpful information is the least we can do. Hey, if you live near him offer to buy him a sandwich at lunch. The grey matter works best when fed. :) And Matt, if you can convince your favorite watering hole to accept Paypal I'd be glad to donate to your tab for those (rare) times you unplug and tend to the needs of the belly. :D Now, if this was not enough, there is a new branch in testing that has been recently opened. A D version of FLTK.
People may have missed this but if you are interested in the D language or just like reading about new things perhaps this is for you. At the very least it shows that Matthias is not terribly stable and could use our support. Now, I'm not terribly sure about where this type of thing is being discussed at FLTK outside the developers newsgroup. If people here show interest in either D by itself, or FLTK-D, we here at GIDForums™ could make some space to allow for disscussions about this project. I'll gladly handle the administrative duties for this here. I've been doing some reading about D and it seems to be a very interesting language. I've been playing with examples using gdc under CygWin and have found some things that may be helpful. Right now though, it seems that he is concentrating on the Mac side so I have not been successful in getting the branch to compile. Once again, I'm sure any support offered would be greatly appreciated. Anyhow, that sums up things I've been reading about for my favorite Open Source UI library. If it brings in even a little help for this hard working developer, it was not in vain.
